Gatte Khichdi Recipe

Ingredients

  • 200 gm basmati rice
  • 4 clove1/2 teaspoon powdered red chilli
  • 10 cashews
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 5 gatte
  • 2 bay leaf
  • 2 tablespoon ghee
  • 2 pinches salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper

How to make Gatte Khichdi

Step 1

Wash and soak rice for 15-20 mins. Boil water in a pan. Put the rice in boiling water and cook uncovered on low heat until the rice becomes firm but tender. Do not overcook the rice otherwise the rice grains will get mushy. Each grain of rice should be separate.

Step 2

When rice is done, sieve it and cool it completely. Heat ghee in a pan

Step 3

When ghee becomes slightly hot, add cashew nuts and toss it on medium heat till it turns light brown in colour and keep aside.

Step 4

In the same pan, add boiled and chopped gatta and shallow fry on medium heat till it turns light brown and keep aside.

Step 5

In the remaining ghee add cloves, bay leaf and fry for few seconds. If you require more ghee then add it accordingly.

Step 6

Now add cooked rice, fry cashew nuts, fried Gatta into it and mix it well. Add salt and black pepper and mix well.

Step 7

If rice has become dry then add 2-3 tsp of water and mix it well. Cover the lid and cook for a min.Gatta rice is ready and can be served with any Indian curry.
